| How do you create a layout? Do you begin with photos? A quote? An event? A color scheme or beautiful paper? All of these have probably inspired you to create a layout at one time or another. For me, it's all about the photos. I have albums full of pictures that I am going through and scrapping. I have a system that I am using to scrap the photos in a (somewhat!) orderly fashion. I have a three ring binder in which I store all of my calendars, routines and pertinent lists. I have a section in the notebook devoted to scrapbooking. I gather the photos for a layout and dump them into a clear page protector with a sheet of paper on which I draw the layout plan. I also add other inspirations such as a sketch, color scheme, or a technique I want to incorporate. I often print thumbnails of the elements from a digital kit I want to use. I usually grab enough photos for 3-6 layouts at a time, and each clear page protector with all the information for each layout now goes into my three ring binder. During quiet moments of the day, I will pull out my notebook and begin sketching ideas for my layout. I lay the photos out and move them around on the page, planning on how I will crop and alter the photos. I make notes about where to place papers, colors, elements and fonts to use, and notes for research I will need to do. When I have a couple of hours to sit quietly at the computer, I scan my photos, and alter them. I place all my elements in my image editor (PSE2) and begin the final and fun stages of my layout How do YOU create a layout? © Barbara Snyder 2006-2009 All Rights Reserved | |
